More and more cities are turning to fiber optic cable to get their services into homes. It is by far, the most efficient way to get your internet services. More people are making the switch because of the many different benefits that fiber optic services have to offer. There are a couple of different ways that fiber optics are installed. One is above ground and the other under. Straight Up Excavation & Drainage is here to talk all about fiber optic cable installation and why you should consider getting it.
There are a few different advantages that come from having fiber optic cable installed below the surface rather than aerially.
– Reduced Risk of Future Cable Damage: When the cable is buried below ground, there is far less chance of damage to occur over time. The cables won’t be exposed to the elements like rain, snow, hail and other natural disasters.
– Fiber Optic Cable is Hidden: You don’t even realize that the cable is there when it is buried rather than hanging from a pole. Customers as well as city officials often prefer buried cable for this reason.
– Cable Takes Up Less Space: The fiber optic cable will also take up less space when it is hidden below ground level too. There will be no pole for it to attach to and will be virtually invisible.
While there are many different areas that have started to install fiber optic cable, there are still many that don’t have this service yet. There are several different approaches that you can take to get the service to your area.
– House: If there are already fiber optic services in your area, it won’t be too hard to get it to your home. You will likely just need to have the trench dug from the sidewalk up to your home. If the cable is still a few blocks away from your home, you may have to wait a little longer while the city gets it closer to your house.
– Neighborhood: If you live on the opposite side of town from where the fiber optic cable is being installed, or don’t live in a neighborhood with very many people, it may be more difficult to get the services. One of the best ways to get it to your area is to attend community and townhall meetings where you can plead your case to the city council.
– City: You need to have some community support to get fiber optics to your city. While there are many cities that are having this service installed, it will be installed in larger cities before smaller ones. Get your community involved to build a municipal fiber infrastructure to your city.
